Distributed I/O
Distributed I/O (input / output) devices allow voltage, mA, temperature and digital signals, at multiple locations, to be monitored or controlled by a remote computer or PLC. Signals are communicated using Modbus or ASCII protocols over Ethernet or RS485 to the remote computer.
Some distributed I/O devices also feature peer-to-peer communication over Ethernet. This enables an input signal to be transmitted from one device over Ethernet to an output device, without the need for a remote computer. This may be called i2o or ioMirror.
