Ethernet Extenders

This can be especially useful where existing co-axial or twisted pair cable exists but does not meet the usual requirements for Ethernet transmission.

Amplicon are the UK suppliers of Patton's innovative range of Ethernet extenders for industrial and office applications. The Ethernet extenders use different types of DSL technology such as ADSL, SHDSL and G.SHDSL to extend Ethernet up to 10km over a single pair of twisted wires. It is for this reason that Ethernet extenders are also known as DSL extenders.

Many sites already have legacy twisted pair cabling installed such as an old RS485 system or an analogue telephone connection. Ethernet extenders turn these old cables into a precious commodity as they can save the cost of installation of new cable infrastructure. Ethernet extenders can be especially cost-effective when existing cables are used instead of new 'fibre optic' cable.

Amplicon's previous applications for Ethernet extenders include - a connection from an office to an observatory using inexpensive cable to overcome the 100m distance limit of Ethernet; along the side of a railway where cable had already been installed; on a drum of specialist cable that was regularly reeled in and out in a coal mine and across a building site to silos where the cable run was in excess of 100m and fibre was too expensive.
