This device provides up to 5km GPIB bus extension using fibre optic cable and up to 200m with copper. The unit is ideal for applications involving data retrieval from instruments in electrically isolated test chambers or shielded rooms thanks to the complete electrical isolation that fibre connectivity affords. Dual Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) cable such as IBM type 1, Belden 9688 or Cat 6 is recommended for copper connectivity. Cat 5 can be used but is much less effective over long distances. For applications requiring the use of coaxial cable it is necessary to purchase the DB9 to BNC adapter.
