The ME51 media converter is a standalone physical layer device that converts between 10/100BaseT(X) and 100BaseFX segments of the same network. One of the predominant applications of the ME51 is as a LAN extender. Two converters can be used in tandem to connect remote 10/100BaseTX segments belonging to the same LAN, which will provide connection of LAN segments up to 15km apart. Fibre optic data transmission is also immune to interference caused by lightning, power transformers and the switching on and off of large motors. Available in both singlemode and multimode versions with a choice of SC or ST connectors.
